Metro Mom - Reasons we love wooden toys from local brand, Cobble

Tags:

Our collection of wooden toys has gradually expanded by a few pieces, as our youngest daughter began to show interest in building small castles and role playing. The most recent sets we got are Sabine’s all-time favorites. She can easily mix these free-form shapes together to create different settings and structures.

Manufactured by a local brand named Cobble, these toys are primarily made out of raw wood that are sanded by hand and coated in non-toxic beeswax that’s safe for babies. The product lineup offers a quirky variety for play and learning for every stage and age, from teething infants to preschoolers. Cobble is the brainchild of doctor-entrepreneur, Myka Morales – Limchoc, who got the idea and inspiration from her eldest son, Lucas.

When we first discovered Cobble on Instagram, we immediately fell in love with its Scandinavian appeal. The modest pop of pastels give more definition to the form, while the age appropriate sizes and soft curves make it easy for little hands to get a firm hold of the toys. These versatile pieces even make for a great accent to any nursery, book shelf or table.

Here are some of our top picks from their collection:

Free-forms and Blocks

Have loads of fun with different shapes, sizes and forms, which offer more than just stacking. Encourage free thinking using free-form pieces to make bridges, tunnels, buildings, mountains and anything your child can imagine.

Character Figures

Turn your playroom into a small, quaint town or make-believe zoo with wooden people and animal figures. These are sure to fire up the children’s imagination as they create their own sound effects and dialogues. This kind of activity helps them develop social awareness and encourage role-playing and world-building.

Locomotives

Whether they are into cars or animals on wheels, these cute locomotives can help improve your child’s motor skills and memory through cause and effect. Kids also get a better understanding of directions (e.g. forward, backward, etc.) through movement and visual reference. This will keep them engaged in active play.

Fun with Letters and Basic Counting

Letter cut-outs make for a great learning tool for kids to identify, recognize and write letters. You can even request to customize the set to your child’s own name. There’s also an abacus to help your toddler discover counting, as easy as 1-2-3!
